Banff is one of the most photographed places on earth, and for good reason.

Turquoise glacial lakes, towering peaks, a landscape that genuinely looks better in real life than in any photo you've seen. If you're considering eloping here, you've already made an excellent decision.

Now let's talk about money — clearly, honestly, and without the vague ranges that make budgeting feel impossible.

A Banff elopement can cost anywhere from CA$5,000 on the minimal end to CA$25,000 or more for a full adventure-driven day. Most couples investing in a quality experience land somewhere between CA$8,000 and CA$15,000. Here's what drives that number.

The Non-Negotiables

These are the costs that apply to almost everyone, regardless of what kind of day you're planning.

Parks Canada Entry Pass

CA$11 per adult for a daily pass, or CA$151.25 for an annual Discovery Pass. Every person present — including vendors — needs one.

Marriage Licence

CA$100–150 total, including the CA$40 government fee plus registry agent service fees.

Ceremony Registration

Free. The Parks Canada wedding registration form costs nothing to submit.

The Extras

Photography

This is the piece most couples anchor their budget around, and for good reason — it's the one investment that lasts forever.

For an experienced Banff elopement photographer, expect to invest CA$4,000–CA$12,000 depending on coverage length, inclusions, and experience level. At Wild North, our elopement packages run from CA$7,500 for a half-day Anchor session to CA$12,000 for a multi-day Traverse experience. We work exclusively in the Rockies and we bring a deep knowledge of light, location, and logistics.

Be cautious of prices that feel significantly below market. Banff is a demanding environment — the altitude, the weather variability, the backcountry access — and experience here is genuinely worth paying for.

Officiant

Unless a friend or family member is officiating, you'll need a registered Alberta marriage commissioner. Officiant fees in Banff and Canmore typically range from CA$400–CA$1,000 depending on whether they do a full ceremony consultation and personalised vows, or a shorter ceremony-only format.

Some photographers, including Wild North, work closely with excellent officiants and can connect you directly.

ACCOMADATION

You're going to want to stay a few days. Banff doesn't deserve a one-night stop.

Accommodation ranges from about CA$200/night in Canmore (a 15-minute drive from Banff townsite) to CA$800+/night for luxury properties like the Fairmont Banff Springs. Budget-conscious couples often stay in Canmore and drive into the park. Couples wanting a fully immersive stay book within Banff itself.

For a 2–3 night stay, budget CA$600–CA$2,500+ depending on what you want.

TRAVEL

If you're flying in from outside Alberta, Calgary International Airport (YYC) is about 90 minutes from Banff via the Trans-Canada Highway.

International flights, rental car, and incidentals are all worth factoring in. From Europe, expect CA$800–CA$2,000+ return per person depending on origin and season.

Hair and Makeup

Optional but worth considering. Artists local to Banff or Canmore won't charge travel fees. Expect CA$200–CA$500 per person depending on the artist and the complexity of the look.

Florals

A beautiful bridal bouquet and boutonnière from a local florist runs CA$200–CA$600. If you're keeping things minimal, many couples go without and opt for the landscape to do all the visual work. Both approaches are equally valid.

Videography

If you want film memories of your day, add CA$3,500–CA$8,000 for an experienced videographer who can also handle the terrain.

Adventure Add-Ons

This is where Banff becomes something else entirely.

Helicopter flight

(ceremony at altitude)

CA$1,500–CA$9,000+ depending on the operator, duration, and group size. This is the most popular premium add-on, and it earns every cent.

Horseback ceremony

Possible through operators like Banff Trail Riders — contact them directly for pricing.

Canoe on Lake Louise or Moraine Lake

CA$50–CA$180 depending on rental duration. A beautiful, intimate addition to your session.

The Real Range

To give you something concrete to work with:

A minimalist elopement

Just the two of you, one photographer, one officiant, 2 nights in Canmore, no extras — is realistically achievable for CA$6,000–CA$8,000.

None of these price points is right or wrong. They're just different versions of the same extraordinary place.

A full-day adventure elopement

With photography, officiant, hair and makeup, florals, quality accommodation in Banff, and a couple of add-ons will sit closer to CA$12,000–CA$18,000.

A helicopter elopement

With a full creative team, luxurious accommodation, and a private dinner to follow easily reaches CA$20,000–CA$25,000.
